Remedy does it again, brillantly this time.
A WORD OF WARNING
Max Payne 2 contains graphic materials and 'interesting' language, right out of horror movies and "B" Movies. So if you want to give little Jimmy Max Payne 2, you better get him something else so his mind won't be so f*** up when he plays this and go around shooting people.
Man I hate those people who sue game companies because of violence that i related to games.
Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne Review
Gameplay: 10/10
Graphics: 10/10
Sound: 10/10
Replayablity: 8/10
Opinion: 10/10
Overall: 9.8/10 (Outstanding)
An outstanding, well-polished and professional game. One of the greatest game ever.
Gameplay: 10
Max Payne 2 starts after sometime from Max Payne 1. Max transfered himself from the DEA to NYPD and the story begins. Max encounters Mona Sax, a evil twin sister from the 1st game who got shot in the head, but returns for unexplainable reasons. See many of the old friends from Max Payne 1 back. But I am not going to spoil the story, lets go to the gameplay.
Max Payne looks different in this game. He looks like he has gone through quite alot of hardship, and now he looks like a human.
The gameplay is like the upgraded version of Max Payne 1. A very nice selection of weapons, with the new AKs and very stylish Havok Ragdolls. Yes, I love ragdolls, and Havok does them well. The enemies die like a human, they can get pinned onto a wall when you are firing your guns before sliding down onto the floor. The environment is also influenced by physics, when you bump into chairs or boxes, they move and fall. Just like in the real world!
The AI is also improved, they now run for cover and search for you when you hide from them. Though most of the times they are scripted to find you.
Dream sequences are back, and aren't as annoying as before. No more tightrope walking or jumping from one platform to another. They are now a story element, which is good.
Max Payne 2 is enhanced with Bullet-Time 2.0, where time slows down even more. As you go around killing, Max Payne goes more deeper into the 'Zone', where he moves faster in bullet time and leave the rest in slow motion, though it sounds stupid, it really helps you in the game, and it rocks. The graphic comics are also back, and they now don't interupt gameplay, like right in the middle of a firefight. They now only appear at the beginning and the end of each level.
Remedy pokes fun at itself and the first game by having TV shows, a parody to the 1st game. Shows like Dick Justice, Address Unknown and Lords And Ladies. Doesn't affect gameplay too much and brings laughs from this tragic game.
The controls are simple to learn, and the game is bug-free! Too sum it all up, it is the perfect game.
Graphics: 10
The textures have greatly improved in Max Payne 2, compared to Max Payne 1. Things look real this time and really brings out the New York feel. The player models are done impressively and Max Payne finally don't have the 'permernent constipated grin' on his face. Quote from Dick Justice. The ragdolls move amazingly well and flawless, ornamental stuff like boxes and chairs are also modeled nicely. Heck, I think this game can beat 'Halo' in graphic standards.
Sound: 10
Great voice acting, great music, great sounds and they slows down in bullet-time. It is good.
Replayablity: 8
Although the game is very short ( 6 hours to complete ), the other game modes keep this game going. A new mode is 'Dead Man Walking', where countless goons spawns to kill you, and you have to kill them and stay alive. The longest survivor wins. It is still fun to watch the ragdolls die everytime you play, so I could say it is damn fun even if you played 5 to 6 times. Modifying it is easy too, just download the files at the offical site. Expect to see 'Matrix' mods coming out for Max Payne 2 soon.
Reviewer's Opinion: 10
In my opinion, this game rocks. The graphics can be compared to a movie, story line is great with a plot twist at the end. The ragdolls are very realistic and I hope they can appear in more games. The Mod community will keep this game alive.
